 Twin Labís Allergy A & D

Description

TwinLab's Allergy is a complete and effective vitamins A and D formula especially designed for highly allergic people. Vitamin A is found in two biologically active forms - retinol (preformed vitamin A) and retinoids (beta-carotene). This fat-soluble vitamin plays an important role in cell formation and immune response, as well as reproductive, vision and bone health. Vitamin A has also been found to have a beneficial effect on stomach ulcers, which are associated with an increased risk of stomach cancer. Vitamin A works synergistically with Vitamin D in the body,

Vitamin D, commonly known as the "sunshine vitamin", can be created from exposure to ultraviolet light. Just ten to fifteen minutes of sun exposure daily can provide 2,000 to 5,000 IU of vitamin D. There are two types of Vitamin D sources: vitamin D2 (ergocalciferol, a poor source derived from plant sources) and vitamin D3 (cholecalciferol, the best source derived from animal products, fortified foods and ultraviolet rays). Vitamin D plays as important role in supporting calcium absorption and bone health, as well as in wound healing. This fat-soluble vitamin has also been found to lower the risk of breast, colon, ovarian and other cancers.

Studies show that more than 50 percent of people are vitamin D deficient. The widespread use of sunscreens, reduced sun exposure, residence in northeastern US or in areas with high pollution levels, the fall and winter season, and having more skin pigmentation, contributes to the high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency. Taking a supplement such as Twin Lab's Allergy A & D supplies the necessary nutrients to help prevent deficiencies and protect against future disease. Twin Lab's proprietary blend of ingredients does not include common allergens such as fish, soy, yeast, barley, wheat, lactose (milk sugar) and all milk, citrus and egg products. There are no added flavorings, colorings, coatings, sugars, salt, artificial sweeteners, preservatives or salicylates.

One capsule of Twin Lab's Allergy A & D contains the following beneficial nutrients:

  • 400 IU Vitamin D3
  • 10,000 IU Vitamin A (from Retinyl Acetate)
  • Other ingredients: Potato Starch, Rice Bran Defatted Extract, Gelatin, Purified Water, Silica, Magnesium Stearate, MCT.

Pros

With all of the Vitamin A and D supplements to choose from, what makes Twin Lab's Allergy A & D stand out from the rest? An important advantage is that Twin Lab's Allergy formula doesn't include common allergens or synthetic fillers. This can be of great benefit, especially if you're prone to fish, fish oil, soy, dairy, or wheat allergies. Furthermore, Twin Lab's Allergy is formulated from water dispersed vitamin A and Vitamin D in their dry form for easy digestion and assimilation in the body.

Supplementation with Twin Lab's Allergy A & D can be an important addition to the diet for achieving reproductive, vision and bone health and preventing deficiency-related health problems.

Studies have found that Twin Lab's Allergy A & D nutrients have numerous benefits including:

  • Improves and maintains bone health
  • Supports vision health
  • Protects against cataracts and night blindness
  • Improves acne, psoriasis and other skin problems
  • Decreases the risk of stomach, breast, colon, ovarian, and skin cancers
  • Improves immune function
  • Helps treat anemia
  • Promotes wound healing
  • Supports reproductive function

Cons

Keep in mind that you may not require as much vitamin D if you get plenty of sun exposure, since sunlight increases vitamin D synthesis. Depending on your total dietary intake of dairy and animal foods, vitamin D fortified foods, and cod liver oil, you may also not need as much vitamin D. However, vitamin D deficiency is common in strict vegetarians and vegans, elderly persons, alcoholics, dark-skinned individuals, and people with liver, kidney, intestinal or thyroid disease.

Experts recommend supplementing with 400 IU vitamin D per day. Vitamin D side effects are rare, although excessive vitamin D may cause headaches, weight loss, kidney stones, increased thirst, increased urination, diarrhea or irritability.

Women who are or could become pregnant should take no more than 10,000 IU of vitamin A daily to avoid the risk of birth defect. Although vitamin A supports immune function and helps prevent infection, high doses of vitamin A can increase the risk of infections in children. Therefore, vitamin A supplementation is not recommended for children.

Experts recommend supplementing with up to 10,000 IU vitamin A per day. Vitamin A side effects are rare, although excessive vitamin A may cause headaches, dry skin, hair loss, fatigue, bone problems and liver damage.

Be aware that some drugs may prevent the absorption of vitamins A and D including:

  • Anticonvulsants
  • Bile Acid Sequestrants
  • Cimetidine
  • Colestipol
  • Cyclophosphamide
  • Estrogens
  • Flubiprofen
  • Gabapentin
  • Haparin
  • Hydroxychloroquine
  • Indapamide
  • Isoniazid
  • Methotrexate
  • Methyltestosterone
  • Mineral Oil
  • Neomycin
  • Oral Corticosteroids
  • Orlistat
  • Phenobarbital
  • Thioridazine

Is it for you?

If you're elderly, a strict vegetarian or vegan, highly allergic, or at risk for vitamin A and D deficiencies due to one of the conditions mentioned above, you may find nutritional support with Twin Lab's Allergy A & D. However, children and people with sarcoidosis, hyperparathyroidsim, or cardiovascular disease should not supplement with vitamins A and D without consulting a physician.

A couple of months ago my doctor suggested that I should start taking TwinLab's Allergy A & D because I'm a vegetarian & I avoid the sun. So I've been taking it daily now for about 45 days with no complaints
