Optimum Nutrition’s Stevia Powder - Product Review
|
DescriptionOptimum Nutrition's Stevia Powder features standardized pure White Stevia Extract. Stevia (Stevia rebaudiana) is derived from a small perennial plant native to the rain forests of Central and South America. Stevia is commonly used as a non-sugar sweetener in food and drink. It is calorie-free and does not increase blood sugar levels like other sweeteners such as sugar or honey. Stevia leaves contain potent bioflavonoid antioxidants (glycosides) including its major glycoside called stevoside. Stevoside gives stevia its sweetness. It is between 100 and 200 times sweeter than sugar. The glycosides neutralize harmful free radicals (toxic molecules that cause damage to cells). The stevia leaves also contain a variety of vitamins, minerals and other immune system boosting agents. Stevia can be used in place of artificial sweeteners like aspartame. Research suggests that stevia may help regulate blood sugar levels. One study, published in the Brazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, found that stevia extract reduced blood glucose levels in 16 healthy participants. This finding suggests that stevia supplementation may be beneficial for individuals with diabetes, hyperglycemia (high blood sugar) and obesity. ProsStevia Powder is standardized to 90% stevosides. Optimum Nutrition's careful plant selection, extraction and standardization guarantees product freshness and great taste. It includes a convenient measuring scoop. Stevia can be used in place of sugar or other sweeteners in your favorite recipes and drinks. Stevia Powder's benefits include:

I watch my sugar intake like crazy, but LOVE my sweet coffee in the morning. Unfortunatyl, the "blue packets" and the "pink packets" give me horrible migraines. Stevia is all natural, easy to use, and tastes like real sugar. I use it everywhere that I use sugar, but mostly in my morning coffee! I have been using this kind of stevia for about 8 years and it is my favorite brand. Unlike the other reviewers who disparaged it for being weaker in flavor than other stevia powders, I like that fact. It is easier to not get too much on. Using too much gives it a gross after-taste. Stevia is an acquired taste and if your body is very acidic you probably wont like it. As another reviewer said it is best to sweeten things like fruit, tea and smoothies.
