Benzocaine is a topical local anesthetic. Topical anesthetics do not cause unconsciousness like general anesthetics used for surgery. Instead, they deaden the nerve endings in the skin. This effect numbs the area so you no longer feel pain.

Benzocaine can also be used for the temporary relief of pain and itching caused by conditions such as sunburn or other minor burns, minor cuts, insect bites, poison oak, or minor skin irritation.

Dosage and Directions
